Obituary

Private family services were held Thursday June 23 for Miss Mary Therese Daugherty who passed away the afternoon of Wednesday June 15 at Assumption Village. Mary was born May 14, 1928 in Niles, Ohio to parents William and Anne McGowan Daugherty. She was a 1946 graduate of Ursuline High School, and attended St. Charles Church. Mary worked as an executive secretary for the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in Niles until it's closing. She continued to work in the secretarial field after moving to Boardman, and eventually retired from the office of the Mahoning Valley Medical Group. Mary was an avid golfer and was awarded a 3rd place finish in the Greater Youngstown Area Golf Classic in 1998. She also played tennis, bowled, water-skied, and used to enjoy ice-skating on winter evenings at the Mill Creek Park rink. Mary loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures over the years. Some of her favorite trips included white water rafting in Colorado, the beaches of Aruba and Hawaii, and of course, touring Ireland. She especially enjoyed a trip to Florida with her sister to attend their nephew's wedding on the beach in St. Augustine. She leaves a sister Marcella Duffy of Boardman, nieces Eileen Duffy also of Boardman, Kathleen (Bill) West of Warren, Heidi (Marc Prisant) Heltzel of Colorado, and nephews Patrick (Vicky) Duffy of Columbus, Michael (Jackie) Duffy of Aurora, and John (Shannon) Heltzel of Florida. She also leaves great nieces Erin Duffy of Texas, Jillian Duffy of Aurora, and great nephew Ryan Duffy of Columbus. Her sister Eileen Heltzel preceded her in death. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of Assumption Village for their patience, humor and exceptional care of Mary. God Bless. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
