Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN-Mary Hayek,93 Mary Hayek, 93, passed on to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Divine Liturgy will be at 10 a.m. at St. Maron's Church on Wednesday, May 13. Mary was born February 27, 1922, in Youngstown, a loving daughter of Kalem and Najaie Hayek. She was a humble servant of God and was a devout member of St. Maron's Church. She wed Joseph Akel Hayek on June 24, 1939. Joseph preceded Mary in death on May 26, 1985. Two brothers, Alex and Kaiser, and five sisters, Rose Coury, Victoria Saadi, Josephine Abdalla, Julia Wilkeson, and Adla Conroy, are deceased. Also preceding Mary in death is a son-in-law, Richard J. Hunter, Jr. Mary was the matriarch of the family; her strength and love are deeply rooted in each of us, and we admired and adored her. She was a talented homemaker. Mary, often referred to as "The Traveling Grandma" would travel from one daughter's house to another to share her culinary skills with all of her loved ones. She was the happiest when she was cooking Lebanese food for her family. Mary will be remembered for her gentle disposition and quiet strength. For a time when her children were young, Mary helped runher family's grocery store with the same integrity. Mary took pride in the family she created with Joseph. She leaves her daughters, Sarah (Sami) Bahour of Liberty, Yvonne Hunter of Poland, Joann (Robert) Vanik of Poland, andJosephine (Gary) Foster of Liberty.
