Obituary

Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Gordon BOARDMAN - Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Gordon has returned to God after a courageous six year battle with breast cancer. Kathy was born May 5, 1947, in Pittsburgh, to William and Johanna Mulgrave Gray. She attended Churchill High School in Pittsburgh and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in social work. Kathy's life was committed to helping others. She founded one of the first Teen Crisis Hotlines in the country during her college years, served the community through years of volunteering, and acted as the Director of Volunteers for Hospice of the Valley for 14 years. Kathy, a stage 4 cancer patient, worked for five years providing care to others while receiving her own chemo treatments weekly. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, attended all Steeler home games for the last six years and through the 2012 season while battling cancer. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Lowell Gordon; her daughter, Dr. Kate Gordon-Uber (Jonathan); her parents, William and Johanna Gray; siblings, Beth (Jim) Smith, Dr. Dan Gray, Janice (Dr. Jim) Landisch, Gretchen (Dennis) Hagen, Dr. Bill (Janice) Gray and Amy (Greg) Wagner; and many nieces and nephews. Kathy has touched many lives through friendship and love in Boardman, Lancaster, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh. Special thanks to Dr. Antoine Chahine for his special skills, the excellent staff at St Joseph's Cancer Center and the compassionate care provided by Hospice of the Valley. Please join family and friends to celebrate Kathy's life legacy. Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman and Friday, Oct. 4, from noon to 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 1420 Oakhill Ave. in Youngstown. A Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her honor to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
