Mary Ellen Leshinsky BOARDMAN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1:30 p.m. at The Cathedral Parish of St. Columba for Mary Ellen Leshinsky who passed away early Thursday morning, at her home, surrounded by her children, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary Ellen was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Youngstown, a daughter of the Honorable Charles J. and Mary Lucille Carney. She married John R. Leshinsky Sr. on June 2, 1962. She is survived by her five children, Laura (Tim) Elder, John (Kelli), Chuck (Lisa), Lynn (John) Orr, and Lisa (Guy) Young, with whom she made her home; and her sister, Ann (Jim) Murphy. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 12 grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Max, Aidan, Anna, Nathan, Elizabeth, Guy, Lauren, Andrew, Charlie, and Patrick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Ursuline High School. After graduating, she worked at Erie Railroad until she started her family. After raising her family, she worked her most beloved job as a teacher assistant at Ursuline Preschool and Kindergarten. There she was affectionately known as "Mrs. L." She touched the lives of many young children, parents and staff members during her time there. She was a member of the Cathedral Parish of Saint Columba where she was a Eucharist Minister and a volunteer for many parish functions. She was also a member of Boardman Band and Orchestra Parents and Friends of the Boardman Band and enjoyed monthly luncheons with the band moms until her illness. She was a member of the Silver Sneakers at the Y, an avid mall walker, and enjoyed tap dancing and Zumba classes with her friends. Mary Ellen had many lifelong friends known as her club girls. They met monthly for club for almost 60 years. Her family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley, especially her nurse, Emma, for her kindness and compassion. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ellen's name to Hospice of the Valley or the Cathedral Parish of Saint Columba.
