Merle "Red" Jason, 85 YOUNGSTOWN - Merle "Red" Jason, 85, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. Elizabeth hospital. He was born March 1, 1926 in Youngstown, the youngest son of the late John and Agnes Putarak Jagielski. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson high school. Mr. Jason hired on with the Erie Lackawanna railroad to begin what would become a 38 year career, Merle retired in 1985. The former Genevieve Hamrock and Mr. Jason were united in Marriage on July 15, 1950 at St. Matthias Church. They Celebrated their 61st. wedding anniversary last month. They are member of St. Christine Church. Merle ran a booth for their festival for many years, along with bingo and being on the church's golf team. Merle was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing cards and traveling. Merle also was a member of the Polish National Alliance. He was a devoted father to his four children whom he leaves behind, Karen (Dennis) Gavalier of Denver, Colorado, Denise (Joseph) Kenney of Atlantic Beach, Florida, Daniel (Jayne) Jason of Port Allen, La. And Kenneth (Laurie) Jason of Loveland, Colorado. He has ten grandchildren Caitlin and Gary Kenney, Cody & Jamey Gavalier, Dawn, Dylan, Janelle, Deanna , Joy & Matt Jason. Besides his parents, Merle is preceded in death by his brothers John Jagelsky, Edward and Henry Jagielski and a sister Alice Adams. Merle is survived by his beautiful wife Genevieve (Jennie) Jason, two sister-in-laws Emily Swierz and Ann Ledebur and two brother-in-laws Steve and Bernie Hamrock, a cousin Agatha Fabiny and many nieces and nephews. Merle will be greatly missed by his family and all the people who had the good fortune to know him. Friends may call from 5 to 8 Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman. Prayers will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Msgr. David W. Rhodes and Rev. Edward P. Noga at 10 A.M. At St. Christine Church. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
