Memorial service for Michael and Babrbara
Michael B. Calko of Warren, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from complications of diabetes and heart disease. Michael was born on January 24, 1962, the son of John Jr. and Nancy (Warden) Calko. He attended Berlin Center Western Reserve Schools and entered the United States Navy in 1979, serving aboard the USS Independence as part of a multinational peacekeeping force during the Lebanese Civil War conflict.
Michael married the former Barbara Littell on December 3, 1983, and moved to Maryland where he was employed as a high-pressure steam boiler engineer for Unilever Global. Michael and Barbara returned to the valley in 2015, and until his illness remained employed by Giant Eagle as an ammonia refrigeration engineer and plant maintenance manager, ensuring that millions of gallons of ice cream were kept solid at a steady -40 degrees.
Michael is survived by his siblings Rev. Greg (Tami) Calko, Lisa Schwab, Mark (Lailani) Calko and John C. (Jennifer) Calko and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 40 years Barbara, who passed away on June 1, 2023, and many treasured pets.
Joint graveside services will be held for Michael and Barbara on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman, with a celebration of life to follow for family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
