A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Monday celebrated by Rev. Bernard Timothy, O.P., at St. Dominic Church, Youngstown, for Michael E. Laffey, Jr., 83 of Boardman, who passed away peacefully Tuesday evening with his family by his side. Michael was born February 17, 1934 in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Margaret Jones Laffey and Mary Monroe.. He was a 1952 Ursuline High School graduate and was a member of Pipe Fitters Local 87. After retiring as a pipefitter, he went to work at the Boardman Police Dept, retiring in 2000. He was a lifelong member of St. Dominic Church and the Steam Fitters and Pipe Fitters Local 87 and was a avid Notre Dame fan. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. His wife the former Nancy Ann Metzinger, whom he married May 23, 1959, passed away September 3, 2012.. He leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Michael E. (Sharon) Laffey III, Larry T. Laffey of Columbiana, Patrick J. (Karen) Laffey of Boardman and Daniel (Susie) Laffey of Galena, Ohio, two daughters Colleen M. (Larry) Welton of Leetonia and Katie A. (Kevin) Dixon of Boardman, a sister Mary Novosel of Mineral Ridge, Nine grandchildren Jarrett Welton, Cody ( Kimberly ) Dixon , Michael ( Erica ) Laffey IV, Danielle Welton, Jacob Dixon, Emily Laffey, Alex Laffey, Cameron Laffey & Luke Laffey. and three great grandchildren Remington Norris, Maverick Dixon and Michael Laffey V. Besides his wife, Michael is preceded in death by a sister Kay Snier. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 Monday at St. Dominic Church.
