Obituary

Michael W. McCartney, 74, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning Sept 1, 2025.He was born February 10, 1951, in Youngstown, a son of the late Edward and Catherine O'Brien McCartney.  After attending St. Christine grade school, Mike went on to Chaney High School, graduating in 1969.  Upon graduation, he went to work at Kirkmere Cleaners and the Party Pantry. In 1970, Mike went on to a long career with the United States Postal Service, where he needed special permission to work there due to his young age.  He started as a mail carrier in Niles, that led him to be the postmaster at Kinsman and then New Middletown, where he retired from in 2006.  Mike also found time to be a part time policeman for Mill Creek Park and drove for Gold Cross Limousine.  He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 11551 at St. Paul the Apostle Church where he worshiped with his wife Cathleen.  In his younger years, Mike was the co-chairman for the St. Christine festival.  He was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Cleveland Browns fan.

Mike leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife the former Cathleen L. McKeown, whom he married May 20, 1989, sister Lydia A. Hammar, brother George T. McCartney, sister-in-law Mindy McCartney, nephews George (Joy) Hammar IV, Tim (Kerry) Hammar and Sean (Lori) McCartney, great nephews Jason Hammar, Alex Hammar, Jonah McCartney and Logan Hammar and great nieces Julia McCartney and Rylee Hammar.  Mike is preceded in death by his brother James E. McCartney and brother-in-law George Hammar.

Family and Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday Sept 7, 2025, at the Fox Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev Gerald DeLucia at 11 A.M. Monday Sept 8, 2025, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 10143 Main St. in New Middletown, 44442.

He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
