Mildred V.
Wolford
Jan 25, 1925 — Aug 23, 2015
Mildred Virginia Wolford, 90 BOARDMAN - Mildred Virginia Wolford was 90 years old when she passed away at Shepard of the Valley care center Sunday evening, Aug. 23, 2015. Mildred was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Girard, to Frank and Theresa Spanring Lozier. She attended St. Rose in Girard through High School and received a teaching degree from Youngstown State University. Mildred was married to Donald William Wolford on Aug. 18, 1948, they had five children together. Mildred and Donald lived in Boardman, and later Mildred lived in Canfield. She taught 7th and 8th grade Science and English for 25 years at St. Mathias School in Youngstown. Mildred's passions besides family and friends, were art and music, and after she retired from St. Mathias School, she spent much of her time volunteering at the Butler Art Institute, where she was proud to be the docent who traveled to local schools with samples of the Butler's American Indian Art Collection. The wonderful art from the Butler Art Institute was a perfect way to inform students about the culture of the American Indian, she reasoned. After spending her days with the Butler, she could often be found in the evenings at the Powers Auditorium, volunteering as an usher. She saw it as an opportunity to help a local landmark and enjoy her other passion, music. Mildred had many interests: gardening, roses were her specialty; collecting sea shells, and crafting everything under the sun with them; and baking. Christmas time at "Grandma Millies" was about baking cookies that she would send to everyone who wanted them. Suffice to say - thousands of cookies were made each year. Mildred is survived by her brother, Donald ( Millie ) Lozier of Florida; her sister, Audrey Lozier of Wisconsin; her daughter, Beth Ann (Mark) Myers of Ohio; her sons, Robert (Susan) Wolford of Michigan, James (Lynne) Wolford of Ohio, David (Kelly) Wolford of Ohio, and Donald Wolford of Arkansas; her granddaughters, Kim Gonzalas, Jill Myers, Leah Sanford, Alexandria Sanford, and Hannah Wolford; her grandsons, Robert (Tracy) Wolford, Brian (Stephanie) Wolford and Donald Wolford; her great-granddaughters, Madison Ford, Madelyn Gonzalez, Noelle Wolford and Harper Wolford; and her great-grandsons, Andrew Wolford, Michael Wolford, Peter Wolford, and Jack Ford. Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Donald William Wolford; her brother, Frank Lozier; and her grandson, David Austin Wolford. Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Saint Charles Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Mildred Wolford's name to the Butler Institute of American Art or the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center.
