Peter Yankush, 90 POLAND - Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown, celebrated by Fr. Joseph DiStefano, for Peter Yankush, 90, who passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at the Hospice House. Peter was born on Oct. 2, 1925, in Youngstown, son of Thomas and Zacharoula Kokkou Yankush. He graduated from The Rayen School. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet. He was with the 2109th AAF base unit, where he was a pilot and honorably discharged in 1945. Peter was founder and owner of Youngstown Microfilm Co. He started this business in 1951 and retired 28 years ago . He was a member of St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and various community organizations, the Boardman Kiwanis, a local Stock club, AHEPA and National Photography Association. He was a member of Tippecanoe Country Club and Founderlac Country Club. Peter had many hobbies, including photography and scuba diving. He and his wife were avid world travelers. He also had a passion for aviation. Peter loved to play golf almost daily and he had three holes-in-one. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, "the love of his life" for over 67 years, Tina Kolunie, whom he married March 14, 1948, in New Castle, Pa., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He also leaves his daughter, Diane Yankush-Shattuck of Poland; sons Dr. Thomas Yankush (Dianne Lindsay) of Canfield and James (Laura Rish) Yankush of North Lima; his grandchildren, Krista (Mike) Rubosky, Thomas Yankush, Ryan Yankush, Kelsey Yankush, Mallory (Nick) DeMaiolo and Robert Yankush; and one great-grandchild, Nico DeMaiolo. He also leaves his brother, Alex Yankush; and his sister, Caroline Catsoules. Besides his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his brother, William Yankush. Family and friends may call at the Fox Funeral Home, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a Trisagon prayer service at 6:30 p.m. with Fr. Joseph DiStefano. There will also be calling hours Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
