Obituary

Raymond Patrick Polombi Sr., 87 YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman, celebrated by the Rev. Shawn Conoboy, for Raymond Patrick Polombi Sr., 87, who died Wednesday morning at his residence. He was born July 21, 1923, in Youngstown a son of Antonio and Philomena Testa Polombi. Ray graduated from East High school with the Class of 1943 and has been a lifelong area resident. He joined the Youngstown Police Department on January 4, 1952 and worked in varies divisions until he was promoted to Detective in 1968, where he served the community until retiring on September 24, 1976. Ray was a parishioner at St. Brendan Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of F.O.P. Lodge #28. He was an avid golfer and participated in numerous golf leagues. In their younger days Ray enjoyed traveling and dancing with his wife Anne and their friends especially John and Alice Zidian. When his grandchildren came along, spending time with them became his favorite past time. His wife Anne Vonu whom he married on April 10, 1948 died on July 30, 1994 after 46 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by his son, Raymond P. (Leann) Polombi Jr. of Boardman; grandchildren, Raymond J. Polombi of Boardman, Dana Ann Polombi of Cleveland;step-grandchildren, Lysette Minotti of AZ, Paul Minotti of Akron; two sisters, Margaret Vecchione of Liberty, Lena Campanizzi of Youngstown; three sisters-in-law, Marian Polombi of Poland, Adelle Vonu of FL., Mary Ross of Campbell; a brother-in-law John Hesky of Youngstown; Andrea Polombi of Boardman and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Ross, Fred Ross, Bernard Polombi, Alfred Polombi; a sister Loretta Hesky; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Vecchione, Bill Companizzi, Pete Vonu and two sisters-in- law, Yolanda Polombi and Mary Ross. The Family wishes to thank Charlotte for the loving care she extended to Ray. Any memorial contributions can be made in Ray's memory to St. Charles Building Fund, 7345 Westview Dr. Boardman,OH 44512. Calling hours will be Monday, April 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
