Richard D. Peake passed away peacefully on Friday September 25, 2026, at the University Hospital, in Cleveland.

Richard was born May 15, 1942, in Buffalo, New York,

The son of the late William and Martha McDonald Peake II,

and moved to the Youngstown area as a child.

He graduated from South High School in 1961. After graduating Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.

Richard started working for Standard Oil of California in Los Angeles in 1964, Dow Chemical , Atlantic Richfield Corp. and in 1972 he went to work for Sohio in Warren.

He graduated from El Camino College where he received Associate of Arts degree and continued onto Youngstown State University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. Richard went on to post undergraduate work in Management and information systems at Kent State University.

In 1974, Richard went to work for Republic Steel Corporation/ LTV Steel, then to Cuyahoga Wreaking/ Atlas and North American Demolition in 1985.

He then went to work at Thomas Steel Corporation until 1999 and finished his career at Duferco Farrel Corporation / Manpower. In retirement, Richard worked part time at the Fox Funeral Home, where he brought comfort to many in their time of need.

Richard was actively involved in amateur boxing for 14 years winning 81 fights. He was a Youngstown Novice Boxing Champion and open Boxing Champion in 135 lbs. weight Category . Richard was in the Cleveland tri-county open and Olympic Trial in Washington D.C. in that weight category. Richard also boxed in international tournaments in Mexico City. He was the first amateur boxer chosen for Pro-Am card for promoting the 1968 Olympics card which was televised nationally.

Richard belonged to the American Society for Metals and was a member of Saint Michael Parish in Canfield .

He was a volunteer, worked with YMCA in providing sports activities for delinquent juveniles and inmates of correctional institutions.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his beloved wife Dwyn Griffin Peake of Canfield and he leaves several nieces and nephews

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Elizabeth Szablewski and brother William Peake III.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday September 29, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 30, 2026, at Saint Michael Parish Church 300 N. Broad St. Canfield Ohio, 44406.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.

The Peake family has requested any material contributions be made in Richard’s name to the YMCA, 17 North Champion Street, Youngstown, 44503.
