Robert E. "Bob" Geltch, 91 CANFIELD - Robert Emil Geltch, 91, died Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Bob was born on July 24, 1921, in Youngstown, the son of Emil F. Geltch and Grace Finnie, and lived his entire life in the Youngstown area. A 1938 South High School graduate, Bob also attended Youngstown College (now Youngstown State University.) He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Aug. 13, 1942, and served in Europe, participating in the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the Field Artillery. On Dec. 19, 1945, he was honorably discharged. He rejoined the Army in October of 1950 and served in the Korean War and was again honorably discharged in November of 1951. On March 13, 1943, he married Mildred Louise Bartelmay at St. Dominic's Church, Youngstown. Bob was a painting decorator for Bartelmay Painting for many years. he joined the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades on April 19, 1946 and received a "Life Membership" in October of 1983. In 2009, he was honored as the oldest living member of the organization. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Boardman, where he and his friend volunteered their time to hang the wall covering in the sanctuary when the church was constructed in 1992. Bob watched every Cleveland Indians ball game and attended many games during his life. He enjoyed making many things in his wood shop and looked forward to dinners on Friday nights with his friends. "Papa," as he was known by his grandchildren, is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Jean Heher and husband Michael of Canfield and Janet Louise Moltchan and husband Bernard of Bradenton, Fla.; three granddaughters, Melissa Heher of Moon Township, Pa., Dr. Melinda Heher and husband Louis Cipriani of Moon Township, and Megan Kropf and husband Kevin of Brunswick; and one grandson, Raymond Moltchan and wife Kristine of Parrish, Fla. He also leaves two great-grandchildren, (the pride of his life), Alex Moltchan and McKenzie Cipriani. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents; and three sisters, Lois Lenhart, Rhea Boak, and Shirley Stoney. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman. Prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. There will be a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Boardman, celebrated by the Rev. Philip Rogers. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made in Robert's name to the Emmanuel Community Care Center, 2 N. Main St. girard,OH 44420.
