Robert E
Hageman Sr
Jul 5, 1918 — Apr 13, 2013
Robert E. Hageman Sr. 94 There will be a funeral service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home for Robert E. Hageman Sr., 94 who passed away Saturday afternoon at Assumption Village. Robert was born on July 5, 1918 in Youngstown a son of William and Anna Lee Simpson Hageman and has been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from South High School and he joined Bricklayers Local 8 in November of 1938 and would have attained 75 years of membership this coming November. He worked for various construction companies in the area, alongside both his father and his brothers. He was especially proud of working at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube office when it was first built. He also traveled throughout the country working at various steel mills laying firebrick in the furnaces. The later years of his bricklaying career were spent working for his brothers, Norm and Paul, at the Youngstown Refractory Company. His love for his craft allowed him to build his first home in the 1950's on the South Side of Youngstown, where he raised his family. Later on he built his second home in North Lima for himself and his wife, in which he resided until his passing. He loved all of his schnauzers, from his first dog Abigail, until his last dog Fritz who was his companion in his later years. His later years found him reading three newspapers a day, watching the stock market, feeding the birds, listening to the radio, and playing his vinyl records. He was never shy to offer his opinion on any subject. His greatest joy in life was to have visits from his grandchildren and to hear updates on their lives. Pictures of them were found throughout his home. His wife Eileen Pautot whom he married October 27, 1945 died on June 1, 1999 after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his son, Dennis J. (Nancy) Hageman of Canfield; his two daughters Martha Reddinger of Austintown, Marilyn (Greg) May of Boardman; a daughter-in-law Debbie Hageman of Boardman; a sister Jean Frieden of San Juan Capistrano, CA; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents Robert was preceded in death by his son Robert E. Hageman Jr.; and four brothers Fred, William, Norman and Paul Hageman. The family would like to thank all of those who came to his house and allowed Robert to live out the last two years of his life in his own home which is where he wished to be. We would also like to thank all of those at Assumption Village and Hospice Care for their care during his last few months. Family and friends may call from4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
