Obituary

Robert J. Lilko 79 AUSTINTOWN- Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman and 10 a.m. in St. Christine Church for Robert J. Lilko, 79, of Austintown who died Sunday evening at Hospice House. Robert was born December 25, 1926, in Youngstown a son of Paul & Mary Smotrilla Lilko. He was a 1944 graduate of Ursuline High School and attended Youngstown State University. Robert was a captain for the Youngstown Fire Dept, retiring after 28 years service, then was a general agent of Bob Lilko Insurance. He was a member of the church and worked the festival for many years. Bob and his wife attended several Ohio State Life Insurance Conventions. He played minor league baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved golf, playing and winning many tournaments, and was the past president and member of the Y league. It was on it's membership committee that Bob started the first Ursuline High Golf tournament and brought in 300 golfers, including their families, for the International Firefighters Touranment at Mill Creek Park Golf Course. He also ran the Bicentennial Golf Tournament in 1976. Bob served on many cancer fund raising drives and called bingo at Ursuline High School. He was also a member of the Westside Bridge Club and a former member of Tippecanoe Country Club., Bob enjoyed reading and loved to work on the New York Times crossword puzzles. He wrote hundreds of letters to his children. He also served his country during WWII in the Army. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He leaves his wife the former Dolores M. Barko, whom he married May 3, 1952, five children Kathleen DiToro of St. Paul, Minn, Robert (Diane) Lilko of Cleveland, James Lilko of Youngstown, Cheryl (David) Games of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Mary Margaret Gursal of Baltimore, Ohio., one sister Mary Agnes (William) Mariotti, four grandchildren Adriana, Margaret, Rachel & Catherine (Cate)., He is preceded in death by his parents , two brothers Paul & Edward Lilko and a sister Anna Lilko., friends may call 5 to 8 Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman., material tributes to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
