Robert G. Meredith, 86 POLAND - Prayers will be at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church Poland, celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. William Connell, for Robert G. Meredith, 86, who passed away Monday morning at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., where he was visiting family. Robert was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Lilly, Ill., a son of Robert T. and Virginia Lattimore Meredith. He graduated from high school in Westport, Ind. He was a private first class in the U.S. Marine Corps. Robert retired from Conrail in 1989, after a career of 42 years with the railroad. Robert was a member of the Holy Family Church, where he was an usher and served on the Bereavement Committee. He was a volunteer usher for YSU basketball and football games, and was a longtime member of the Youngstown Traffic Club, where he served as president. He was also an American Legion lifetime member. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed road trips visiting his children, family and friends. He was an avid bowler and golfer and organized and played in many golf outings. Robert was a life-long New York Yankees fan. His wife, Ruth C. Knollman, whom he married May 17, 1952, passed away Dec. 3, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Julia (Michael) Ginty of Fishers, Ind., Kathleen Meredith of Kansas City, Kan., and Linda (Richard) Pacenta of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Jason) Plumton, Ryan (Rebecca) Ginty, Kyle Ginty, and Meredith and Mason Pacenta; and one great-grandchild, Grace Ginty. Besides his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Meredith; and two sisters, Luella Phelps and Janice Krom. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman. Internment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
