Ruth Sophia Sakas, 76 YOUNGSTOWN - Ruth Sophia Sakas, 76 of Park Vista Retirement Community formerly of Boardman fell asleep in the Lord at Hospice House with her sister at her side. Ruth was born February 5, 1935, in Lowellville, a daughter of Mae Smith and George Sakas (Sakellariou) and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1953 graduate of South High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Following graduation she was hired by The Home Savings and Loan Company, where she was employed for 43 years. She retired in September 1996 from her position as a manager in the Accounting Department. Ruth was a life-long member of St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, Boardman and a former member of American Business Women's Association. Ruth is survived by her sister, Georgia Sakas Tranquillo of Boardman; her nephew, Ectore A.Tranquillo,III (Heather); great-nieces, Olivia N. Tranquillo, Sophia E. Tranquillo and Isabella G. Tranquillo all of Columbus. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law; Ectore A. Tranquillo Jr. Her family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the staff at Hospice House for their loving care and devotion in her final days. Special thanks to Lori, Sherry, Nancy, Celeste and Cindy for their kindness and support and to Chaplain Bill Kaiser who offered his support following Ruth's passing. Services will be held at Fox Funeral on Friday Nov. 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Thomas M. Constantine officiating at a Trisagion prayer service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
