Sara J. "Sally" Walker, 89 YOUNGSTOWN - Private services where held Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, for Sara J. "Sally" Walker, 89, who passed away Jan. 12, 2014, at Inn at Christine Valley, with her son and sister at her side. Sara was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of William and Esther Leach Alexander. She was a 1942 graduate of South High School and served on the committee for class reunions. During World War II, she served as a wave in the Navy. After the war she was a legal secretary at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube for 16 years, retiring in 1979. She had previously worked for Standard Oil for five years. Sara had been a charter member of Youngstown Solo Parents and a member of Friends of Boardman Library, AARP and the Sierra Club. She was a avid walker in Mill Creek Park and also enjoyed golfing and spending time at the pool while living at Mill Creek Village. Sally enjoyed traveling and taking many trips to California. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, William Walker of San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Conroy; and three nieces, Cathleen Conroy, Nancy Baran and Peggy Sutliff and their families. Besides her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her son, Robert Walker; and her daughter, Jill Walker. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Inn at Christine Valley and Hospice, who assisted with her care.
