Obituary

Sarah Jane (Winfield) Ross-86, loving and beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died October 23, 2011, at Wadsworth Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Middletown, Connecticut. She was born January 8, 1925, in West Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Lewis and Myrtle (Hyatt) Winfield. At the age of 10 she moved to Youngstown, Ohio. On July 21, 1941, she married Louis Ross, Jr. They moved to Boardman, Ohio, in 1950, then in 1971 to Salem, Ohio, where they lived until Mr. Ross's death in 2000. They had been married for 59 years. In 2001 Mrs. Ross moved to Luther Manor in Middletown, Connecticut, where she spent the rest of her life. She leaves to mourn her loss and rejoice in her memory three children: Ronald Ross and his wife, Peg of Lutz, Florida; Donald Ross, Sr., and his wife, Janine, of Boardman, Ohio; and Diana Ross McCain and her husband, Jack McCain, Jr., of Durham, Connecticut; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Deane Monroe, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, October 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio, followed by a brief service at the Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Luther Ridge, 628 Congdon Street West, Middletown, CT 06457, or to Middlesex Hospice/Palliative Care, Middlesex Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff and residents at Luther Manor in Middletown, for helping to make the 10 years she lived there happy and rewarding; to the staff and volunteers at Middlesex Hospital Hospice, who provided compassionate care in her last weeks; and to the staff at Wadsworth Glen for their assistance and support.
