She was born June 18, 1946 in Youngstown, Ohio and was the daughter of John and Katherine Herlec Mihin. She passed away after a five year battle with breast cancer. She attended North High School and Kent State University before transferring back to Youngstown State University where she majored in Accounting with a minor in Business Administration. She started her career in insurance in 1970 when her husband was sent to Viet Nam. She started as a clerk and worked her way up to Assistant Vice President of Frank B. Hall & Co. then Vice President and co-owner of the John B. Booth & Co., then Sole owner and President of John B. Booth & Co., which was a totally female agency and certified as a Women's Business Enterprise. She later merged her agency with the L. Calvin Jones & Co. where she was Sr. Vice President and an owner. Shirley was also co-owner with her sister-in-law of Western Reserve Protective Services, Inc. Shirley obtained her CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) designation in 1984 and her CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation in 1996. She was the first female president of the Mahoning-Shenango Chapter of CPCU's, the first female board member of Fonderlac Country Club and one of only a handful of women across the United States that was both an insurance and bonding producer. Shirley was a member of the PIA, the IIAA, the Executive Women's Roundtable of Cleveland and a 1997 graduate of Leadership Mahoning Valley. She also had been nominated for the Athena award. Shirley leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Lawrence (Buzzy) Davis, a daughter, Sherry (Kevin) Davis and her beloved granddaughter, Katie Ann Davis. She also leaves behind her mother, Katherine Mihin, a brother John (Evelyn) Mihin, several brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Mihin, Sr., and her younger brother, George Mihin. Shirley loved insurance and bonding and most especially her clients. Her work life was devoted to doing the best possible job for those clients she represented. They were more then clients to her - they were some of her very best friends. She developed friendships with these people that lasted her entire career. Her home life was devoted to her husband, her daughter and most especially to her granddaughter who she worshipped. Shirley enjoyed reading, golfing and gambling at various casinos. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to8 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
