Stephanie Joy Norman, 85 The angels came and escorted Stephanie Joy Norman from her frail, flawed body to her glorious heavenly home on November 14, 2007. She is free from pain and suffering for ever more. Stephanie Norman was born in Inglewood, New Zealand on June 6, 1922 to Leslie and Phyllis Clinkscales Burrows. She was the oldest of their 3 daughters, and grew up during the Great Depression with her younger sisters, Patricia and Valmarie, near Auckland, N. Z. She studied Art for several semesters at college before joining the New Zealand Women's Army Corp, where she was an a gunner in an anti-aircraft battery during WW II. She met her husband, Carroll E. Norman, while he was in NZ on R & R from fighting in the Pacific Island Hopping campaign. They married in June 1944 and in December of 1945 Stephanie delivered the couple's first child on Christmas Eve. Mrs. Norman immigrated to the U.S. in January 1946 with her 6-week-old daughter on one of the war-bride ships sent by President Truman to fetch American servicemen's brides from Australia & NZ. Stephanie settled in Georgia with her husband where they raised four children. Carroll Norman preceded Stephanie in death in 1993. She moved to Youngstown in 2005 to live with two of her daughters. Mrs. Norman taught kindergarten for approximately 15 years and was a wonderful home maker and mother. She was an accomplished artist and seamstress and was a marvelous cook. She loved gardening, flowers, bird watching, and her pets. Mrs. Norman is survived by her 4 children: Karen Joy Holley of Youngstown, Lynette N. Waks of Augusta, GA., Ian Andrew Norman of Charleston, S.C., & Lillian E. Norman of Youngstown. She has 2 granddaughters: Carol E. Holliday of Augusta, GA, and Stephanie L. Stamps of Florence, AL, and 3 great-granddaughters. Material contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406. There are no calling hours or services.
