Obituary

Thomas George Assion- 64 YOUNGSTOWN- Services will be 12.30 p.m. Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman and 1 p.m. in St. Charles Church for Thomas George Assion, 64, who died Wednesday evening at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Tom was born June 16, 1942, a son of George and Elise Riblet Assion. He was a Youngstown native who attended St. Nicholas grade school and then Cardinal Mooney High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor's of Arts degree from Youngstown State University and his Masters in Education from Kent State University. Tom also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He worked as a Supervisor for the State of Ohio in the Rehabilitation Services Commission and retired from that post in 1992. He remained active as the Commander of the Boardman Post #565 of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Tom was a member of St. Charles parish, where he actively participated as a Eucharistic Minister, Leader of Prayer, Men's Club, former participant in JOY, CHRP and RCIA teams. In his leisure time, Tom loved golfing and always found that annual golf trip with his friends to Myrtle Beach was a highlight of his year. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and was an avid sports fan. His sons were the love of his life. He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary Yvo Hynes whom he married July 24, 1971, his three sons; Mark (Amy), Thomas John "TJ" (Lisa) both of Youngstown , Daniel of Port Orange, FL; three grandchildren; Michael, Mary Grace and Kailyn. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his two brothers; John Paul Assion and James Freemont Assion. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. His family asks that all donations and remembrances be sent to St. Charles church, 7327 Westview Dr. Boardman, OH 44512.
