William James Barry Jr., 76 YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, ministered by Dr. Jay Eastman, for William J. Barry Jr., 76, who died Monday evening at his residence. Bill was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of William J. and Hanna Lucille Bullman Barry Sr. and had been a lifelong area resident. Bill was a career soldier who spent two years in the Navy and later joined the Army, where he spent 20 years. While in the service, Bill received a Purple Heart and the CIB Medal of Combat. After retiring from the service, he became a mail carrier for the Post Office for the next 16 years. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandson, James Barry. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Arlene M. Higgins, whom he married June 24, 1959, just celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. He also leaves his three daughters, Andrea (Stephen) Kowalski of Canfield, Sharon (David Sullivan) Barry, also of Canfield and Ashlynne (Joseph Frush) Barry of Youngstown; a brother, Robert Michael (Mary) Barry of Youngstown; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, James E. Doyle; and his sister, Helen Irene Walsh. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for the great care given to William.
