William J. Borak, 92 YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Peter Polanda at 11 a.m., Saturday, at St. Columba Cathedral for William J. Borak, 92, who passed away peacefully, Monday morning. William was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Khirbet Anafar, Syria, a son of Assad and Rose Nemer Borak. He was a 1940 graduate of The Rayen School and worked in the metallurgy department of Republic Steel. "Bill" was an usher and lifelong member of St. Columba Cathedral. He loved all sports, playing cards with friends and was in several bowling leagues. William was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe during World War II. He leaves to cherish his memory, a sister, Philomena Putarek of Youngstown and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by five brothers, Tony Barak, Mitchell Barak, Joseph Barak, Albert Barak and Louis Barak; and three sisters, Julia Turillo, Josephine Barkett and Mary Smith. Friends may call from 9 to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, at St. Columba Cathedral. Material tributes can be made in William's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
