Carol Ann (Howard) Cunningham

Carol Ann Cunningham passed peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living of Austintown, with her loving family at her side.

She was born on December 12, 1940, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late John D. and Caroline M. Hennessy Howard and was a lifelong area resident.

Carol attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School as part of the class of 1959.  She started working at Union Bank in downtown Youngstown soon after graduating from high school, and eventually worked for Bank One in Austintown until her retirement in 2006.

Carol married the love of her life William “Bill” E. Cunningham on August 18, 1973, at St. Patrick's Church in Youngstown.

Upon returning from their honeymoon they moved to Austintown, into a new home that Bill and his brothers had built. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved caring for her home and family. They eventually became Immaculate Heart of Mary Church members in Austintown, Ohio. After retiring, Carol spent time playing cards with a group of friends, caring for her yard, and caring for the flowers she had planted.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Bill of 51 years, her sister Mary Grace Bucko of Boardman, brothers Michael Howard of Canfield and John Anthony “Tony” Howard of Boardman, brothers-in-law Robert “Bob” (Joan) Cunningham of Austintown, and John Cline of Florida. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister Susan Cline, brothers-in-law Don Bucko, Thomas Cunningham, James Cunningham, and Dan Bittler, and sisters-in-law Mary Bittler and Marcella Howard.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown 4490 Norquest Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Very Rev. Gregory Fedor.

The interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The Cunningham family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale of Austintown and Akeso  Home Hospice for the love and care shown towards Carol.

Carol’s family has requested any material tributes be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in her memory, 4490 Norquest Blvd. Austintown, Ohio 44515.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
