Douglas Chandler Obituary

Douglas M. Chandler passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on Wednesday September 17, 2025.

He was born on June 12, 1942, in Durham, North Carolina, son of the late Coy W. and Ruby Castleberry Chandler.

Douglas enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1962; he received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged May of 1964. He was a retiree of the Schwebel’s bakery where he kept in touch with lifelong friends of the bakery until the very end. Also, he was a member of AA and was a major contributor to the program for over 22 years. Douglas was a member of Mason’s back in the 80’s.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on his patio overlooking his flowers and garden. He also loved watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Guardians. 

Douglas leaves to cherish his memories, his son Douglas (Courtnay) Chandler, daughter Dena (Mark) Schneider, and stepson Damaskus (Tosha) Fotou. His brothers Rickey and Melvin Chandler.

He also leaves his seven grandchildren; Alexis Fotou, Brooke Chandler, Leanne Chandler, Sarah Beight, Jenna Beight, Liam Fotou and Elias Fotou, plus three great grandchildren; Juliana Hill, Carson Powell and Kingston Figueroa. He also leaves behind his beloved niece Christa Schall. 

Douglas was preceded in death by his wife Helena Fotou Chandler, siblings Joe, Barbara, Joyce, Bellita, Linda, Shirley, Helen and Margie. 

A private service was held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, with Military Honors. 

Burial was at Forest Lawn Cemetery.  

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
