Father Anthony Warren Obituary

Father Anthony C. Warren, S.S.P. 71 years, 49 of Pauline life, 47 of profession and 39 of priesthood, passed on Thursday February 20, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio due to a sudden cardiac arrest.  Clarence was born in Bronx (New York, USA) on January 22, 1954, one of two brothers and 5 sisters, to parents Owen and Adele (Gant) Warren. He entered the Staten Island community in September 1975, made his First Religious Profession on 4 September 1977, taking the name Anthony, definitively consecrated himself with Perpetual Profession on 22 February1984. He was ordained a priest on 2 November 1985.

In the presentation document for the diaconal ordination, the Person Re-sponsible presented him as follows: “Anthony shows himself to be aware of having undertaken his journey towards God... he is much present in liturgical prayer and other practices of piety... he sees his daily prayer as an indispensable force of support for his life... he sees the Society of Saint Paul as the Congregation in which he can best serve God... he enjoys almost in every aspect of our apostolate... he is respectful of others and their opinions... he sees giving and serving as an essential part of his life... he is sensitive to the needs of others and shows himself to be particularly generous and attentive... he is an intelligent and responsible person.”

Father Anthony began his apostolic ministry in marketing until 2000, when he was appointed Superior of the Staten Island house for two terms. He later had various commitments but dedicated himself above all to the priestly ministry. He also served as a Provincial Councilor from 1992-1996. He was a very reserved and shy person, faithful to daily Mass and the evening Eucharistic visit. Every Sunday he celebrated Mass in the Austin woods nursing home, and the people greatly appreciated his short and rich homilies. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and his music. Father Anthony celebrated Mass on Thursday morning with the community, then began breakfast with the confreres, but during the meal he suddenly fainted. He was taken to the hospital but never recovered. God took him and brought him with him to his Kingdom. May the Lord welcome this brother of ours and give him the eternal reward, while we ask him to intercede for numerous holy vocations for our Congregation and the entire Pauline Family.
