Harry “Butch” G. Smith, III, 80 of Boardman, passed away on Sunday May 25, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, with his family at his side.
He was born September 26, 1944, in Youngstown, the son of the late Harry G. and Ruth Drennen Smith, II., and was a lifelong area resident.
Butch graduated from South High School in 1963. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Berlin Germany until being honorably discharged.
After returning home he worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, and in 1970 he started working for G.M. Lordstown plant, and he retired in 2006, after 36 years.
Butch and his family are members of Saint Patrick Church in Youngstown.
He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his large extended family, they went on ski trips in the winter months and for over 30 years boating to Catawba Island and Put-In-Bay.
Butch coached his boys when they were younger in football and baseball for Austintown and Canfield sports leagues.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Patricia L. Fritz, whom he married in 1966, they have spent 59 wonderful years together. His boys Sean Patrick Smith of Austintown and Christopher Sheridan Smith of Boardman. Grandchildren Liam, Aidan, Sean and Moira Smith.
Butch also leaves his sister Carole Jones, and brothers and sisters -in-law and several nieces and nephews, plus many cousins.
Butch was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Robert Jones.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday May 29, 2025, at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday May 30, 2025, at St. Patrick Church 1420 Oak Hill Ave. Youngstown. Celebrated by Very Rev. Thomas Kraszewsi.
Interment will be in Jackson Township Cemetery.
