James "Jim" O'Malley Obituary

 

The world is less colorful today with the passing of James “Jim” T. O’Malley who peacefully passed away at his home with his loving family by his side, on Thursday March 13, 2025.

Jim was born on January 8, 1940, in Youngstown, the son of the late Edward J. and Anne C. Dailey O’Malley, he was a lifelong area resident, growing up on the South Side.

He graduated from Ursuline High school in 1958 and attended Youngstown State University studying in the art department. 

Jim enlisted in the Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963, after receiving the good conduct medal.

He married the love of his life Joyce A. Olesky at St. Patrick's Church on April 4, 1964.

Jim worked for the United States Postal service and retired at the age of 52, which gave him time to work on his true passion his art.

Jim and his family loved camping and traveling, they traveled across the country three times and took many trips to Myrtle Beach and the New England states.

He was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

He and his family were longtime parishioners at Saint Dominic Church, he was a member of the Friends of The Butler.

Jim had many one – man shows and entered competitions and won numerous awards, including Best of Show and First place many times.

Jim leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of sixty years Joyce and sons James T. (Jenni) Jr., O’Malley of Johnstown, David Edward O’Malley of Youngstown, his daughter Jennifer Anne (Jeff) Petersen of Fort Lauderdale FLA., and his two grandchildren Sammy O’Malley of Columbus and Gideon O’Malley of Nashville Tenn.

He also leaves his brother Edward J. O’Malley (Judi Gozur) of Liberty and his children Kevin and Katie O’Malley, plus brothers and sisters -in -law and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather for a funeral mass on Friday April 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church 77 East Lucius Ave. Youngstown. Followed by honors from the United States Army.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
