Josephine Janik passed away on Thursday January 1, 2026, after a brief illness.
She was born on May 13, 1930, on the Eastside of Youngstown, the daughter of the late John and Alberina Tedeshi Lamanna and was a lifelong area resident.
Josephine graduated from East High School, in 1948, she was a member of the National Honor Society.
After graduation she worked at the Pyatt Street Market as an accountant for Ohio Fruit Co. and MK produce where she met her husband, Edward.
Josephine married her husband Edward Janik on April 22, 1950, sadly he passed away on February 14, 1986.
She belonged to Saint Dominic Parish since 1965 and volunteered for many years at the school in the library.
Eventually she was hired as their librarian and moved on to the auxiliary services.
She was also a CCD teacher for four years.
Josephine was a good and faithful servant as her mobility decreased, she could be found daily watching EWTN mass and daily rosary. She prayed constantly for anyone who might need her prayers.
As the matriarch of the family, she remained in touch with her nieces and nephews and their children as well.
Josephine attributed her longevity to walking 3 miles per day in her neighborhood and eating blue berries.
Josephine was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her children, Dr. John (Elaine) Janik of SC, Larry Janik of
Youngstown, Ed (Vickie) Janik of Niles and Rosemary (Michael) Binder of North Jackson.
She also leaves her grandchildren Dr. John (Christina), Janik, Elizabeth (Brett) Docksteader, Jillian (Cody) Havaich , Ross Janik and Melissa (Chris) Drawdy and great grandchildren Jaxon and Gavin Docksteader, Harper and Hendrix Havaich and Erin Noll
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rose Briach , Mary Jane Sagula, and Antonett Jammeli Napolitano and brother Ralph Lammana.
A special note of thanks to her dear friends Roxanne, Sandy and Lois, Anna and Sharon, your friendship and kindness will always be remembered.
Family and friends may call Tuesday January 6, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home.
A mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday January 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Dominic Church 77 East Lucious Ave. Youngstown.
The Janis family has requested any material donations be made to Hospice House 9803 Sharrott Rd. Poland Ohio 44514.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
