Kathleen Marie (Conroy) Mahar

Kathleen Marie Mahar, passed peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday August 7, 2024.

Born Kathleen Marie Conroy on March 22, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late John Edward and Anna Mae Mullen Conroy.

 She was baptized at Saint Dominic’s and spent her grade school at St Dominic’s and high school at Cardinal Mooney graduating in 1959. Kathleen attended Saint Elizabeth school of nursing and graduated as an RN in 1961.

Kathleen married Dr. Paul Mahar on June 15, 1963. Paul and Kathleen have six children, Kathleen (Andrew) LeChard of Centerburg, Maureen (Joel) Matthews of Canfield, Mollie (Joseph) Gonda of Canfield, Rosemary (Brian) Crogan of Mason, Paul (Angela) Mahar III, of Canfield and Sheila (Anthony) Jesko of North Lima, sister Anne Conroy Polcha.

 Paul and Kathleen have lived most of their lives in and around Youngstown Ohio although time was spent in Washington DC while Paul was in the military and in New York City during her husband ‘s training years.

Kathleen and Paul celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year and have had very close family ties with their children who are all happily married with families of their own comprising 26 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Kathleen enjoyed many things in her life. She enjoyed nursing at Saint Elizabeth Hospital, worked as an emergency room nurse there and later at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. She also assisted her husband in surgery at Saint Elizabeth.

They spent 30 years at their home near Salem, where music, gardening flowers and conversation were her favorite things. She had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother.

 She will be sorely missed and showered with prayers from her loving husband and children. We feel very certain that Kathleen resides in heaven now visiting with her father, mother, grandparents and extended family and friends. 

A rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Frassati Davis OP. at Saint Dominic‘s Church 77 E. Lucius Ave. Youngstown, on Saturday August 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. for family and friends.

She will be buried at Calvary Cemetery.
