Leonard "Len" Granitto Obituary

Leonard Anthony Granitto, aged 91, passed away on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at

Greenbriar Nursing Home, surrounded by his devoted family. Known as a gentleman

among friends, Len was born on December 24th, 1934, the middle son of Joseph and

Mafalda Granitto (nee D’Apruzzo).

Len attended St. Patrick Elementary School and proudly graduated from Ursuline High

School. He went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering from YSU and an MBA

from Xavier University. After graduating, Len began his career with Allis-Chalmers in

1969. Later, he and his two brothers became co-owners of Taylor Rental Centers,

successfully running the family business together for 37 years.

Len cherished being a father, setting an example for his children and taking great pride

in their achievements. Becoming a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him

immense joy and fulfillment.

Len met his beloved wife, Arlene, at YSU, beginning a marriage that lasted 69

wonderful years. Together, they raised five children. He was a very religious man and

was deeply involved with St. Dominic’s Church. He was an active member of the parish,

volunteering his time and energy to support various church activities. When his children

attended St. Dominic’s School, Len served on the parish council and later on the

Finance Committee, and held the position of PTA president, always striving to

strengthen the school community through his leadership and faith.

Throughout his life, Len’s enthusiasm for physical fitness and golf was a great passion. He became an avid runner, participating in several marathons across the country, from Washington, DC to Boston. His dedication to the sport was evident, culminating in an impressive achievement of placing second in his age group at the prestigious Boston Marathon.

Golf was equally important to him. He enjoyed playing regularly and looked forward to competing in YMCA league where he won several championships.

He was a founding member of the St Dominic golf league and looked forward to his annual

golf outing at Geneva-on-the-Lake, where he had a cottage.

Len leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Arlene Delisio Granitto, children Mark (Denise), Gregory

(Margaret), David (Cathy), Jeffrey (Carrie), and Janine. He is also survived by ten

grandchildren—Matthew, Marissa, Julia, Charlie, Adam, Jeffrey, Anthony, Joseph,

Lorrin, and William Higgins—and great-grandchildren Olivia, Luca, and Eleanor.

Len leaves his brother Joseph (Donna) and sister-in-law Theresa.  He also leaves several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
