Margaret “Pegg” Mater, of Boardman passed away peacefully on Thursday March 5, 2026, at the Hampton Woods with her family at her side.
She was born on August 21, 1950, in Youngstown, the daughter of Gordon E. "Pat" and Donna L. (Bentley) Patterson.
Pegg graduated from Boardman High School class of 1968 and then attended Hannon E. Mullins School of Nursing in Salem.
Pegg moved to Tampa, Florida in 1978 where she met her husband Alan D. “Matt” Mater. They were married October 31, 1981.
Pegg and Matt lived all over the world due to her husband’s military career. They lived in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Hawaii, California, Seatle, Washington, and finally Houston, Texas.
She was very well-traveled and enjoyed sailing, boating and cruising. She also enjoyed reading books and was extremely lucky at the Casinos.
After Matt passed away in 2009, she retired from nursing and moved back home to Youngstown, to be closer to her family.
Pegg leaves to cherish her many memories, her brothers Richard G. (Carol) Patterson of Austintown, Jerre M. (Patricia) Patterson of Canfield and Joanne Wilhelm of Canfield.
Her stepchildren Lawrence Mater and Christine Mater and step-grandchildren Daxton and Asya Jade Mater.
Her nieces and Nephews, Dr. Tammy Patterson of GA., Scott R. Patterson of OH, Dr. Mary Colleen Patterson (John Magliocca) of NH., Matthew M. Wilhelm of CA., Christopher L. Wilhelm of Canfield and Abby R. Patterson of Austintown.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Matt. Her parents, Gordon E. and Donna L. Patterson and her brother-in-law, Martin Wilhelm
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday March 12, at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, St. Charels Church 7345 Westview Dr. Boardman.
Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Pegg's family has requested material tributes to be given in her memory to the Martha's Cupboard at St. Charles Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
