After Mickey graduated from Ursuline High School in 1983 and played football, baseball, and golf. After High School, he went on to study at Youngstown State University and was a player on a Minor League baseball team. After attending Youngstown State University, he started his first job at Delphi as a line worker and moved up in positions at the company. Mickey transferred to General Motors where he continued working as a line worker; Mickey took an early retirement from General Motors in 2019.  The most rewarding area of his career was being a basketball official in the Mahoning Valley for over 42 years. During his retirement he was assisting customers part-time in the golf department at Dick’s Sporting Goods where he could educate others from his experience and knowledge of the sport and being a Ranger at Bedford Trails Golf Course.

After taking an early retirement, Mickey spent his time playing golf, playing cards, spending quality time with his family and family dog, Oreo, and watching his favorite sports teams including Pittsburgh Penguins (hockey), Pittsburg Steelers (football), Notre Dame Irish(football), and New York Mets (baseball).

Mickey gained his one-and-only son, Adam Hammond of Hubbard, OH on March 9th, 1996. On July 18th, 2008, Mickey married Linda Serrano, his second wife, in Orlando, FL. This was the beginning of combining families and gaining a daughter, Isabella Serrano, 7 years old at the time.  Mickey has been in Isabella’s life since she was 4 years old, and he has always considered her one of his own.
