Shirley A. Bennett,76 passed away peacefully Sunday morning September 22, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
She was born December 15, 1947, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Irene Horney Prystash, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1965 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and attended Youngstown State University.
Shirley started working at Republic Steel until she started raising her family.
She married the love of her life Roy A. Bennett on May 31, 1975, at St. Luke Catholic Church.
After her son went to school, she went back to work for Superior Beverage and then worked at Patriot Seating.
Shirley was excellent at cooking and baking; she enjoyed hosting dinner parties at her house. She carried on the traditions of her Slovak heritage and her mothers-in-law Italian heritage with her cooking.
Her kindness and caring nature drew people to her, and with her outstanding personality, everyone she met became a friend.
Shirley and her family are members of Holy Family Church in Poland, once a month since she graduated high school, she would get together with classmates for lunch, 59 years later.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her husband Roy of 49 years, her son Scott A. (Jennifer) Bennett of Canfield, her brother John (Mary) Prystash and her grandchildren, Tyler and Sadie Lynn Bennett.
She also leaves her brother-in-law George H. Bennett, Jr. (Marilyn Raines), nephews Justin (Jodie) Bennett and Jason Bennett (Armando Nicanor), nephew John Prystash and niece Pamela Prystash (Joe Gaynor). Plus, several cousins; special friends Frank and Jeanne Tuscano and Valerie Wells,
Family and friends may call Friday September 27, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman, followed by at service at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Martin Celuch.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the many people and staff of Shepherd of The Valley Girard especially Stephanie, Kay, Lisa and Sherry.
Besides her parents Shirley was preceded in death by her in laws LT. COL. George H. and Angeline Bennett.
The Bennett family asks that material tributes be made in Shirleys name to St. Jude Children Research Hospital P.O. Box 1999 Memphis TN. 38101.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
