Tillie Matteo, 87 passed away peacefully January 6, 2024 in her Canfield home. She was joined the very next day in her journey to heaven by her eldest sister, Cathy Fernback. Tillie was born October30, 1936 in Youngstown, the 2nd of five children of John and Kate Mrakovich Senzarino. She graduated from Wilson High School and worked as a secretary until she married her lifelong love, Joe Matteo on May 19, 1956. She energetically embraced her roles as wife and mother, and was the creator of a lifetime of family memories. Summer days at Wildwood Lake Park, birthday parties that hosted every member of her big Italian family, and the infamous Christmas Eve bash miraculously materialized, without fail. As her 4 children grew, she spent her time volunteering in school activities and local political campaigns. In her kitchen was the smell of spaghetti sauce and the chatter of lively discussion of current events. Tillie was the champion of the underdog, always.
When the demands of domesticity lessened, Tillie dived in to her second true passion of health and wellness. As an employee at Body Works Fitness Center until their doors closed, Tillie touched the lives of so many with her listening ear, expertise in nutrition and natural medicine, and became a role model for her active and “new age” approaches to staying healthy.
She lovingly and selflessly cared for her husband in their home until his passing in 2020.
Tillie leaves to cherish her memory her children Micki (David) Bagar, Mark (Amber) Matteo, Mindi (Kenny) Sabo, and Missi (Mike) Pompoco; siblings brother and sister- in -law John and Alice Senzarin, sister Norma Morgione, sister and brother- in -law Tara and Tony DelBene, and brother-in-law Jim Matteo; grandchildren Kaitlin and Kendyl Landreth, Marina (Scott) Christopher, MichaelJaye Pompoco, Eric (Nicole) Sabo, Miranda Sabo, Justin Bagar, and 3 great grandchildren. Tillie will also be greatly missed by 14 nieces, nephews and their families, and countless "friends who are family."
In passing, along with her beloved husband, parents, and sister, she is also reunited with brothers-in-law Bob Fernback and Frank Morgione, and sisters- in-law Anita Matteo Delsignore and Monica Matteo.
To honor the wishes of Tillie and Cathy, private services were attended by close family.
