William John Smith, Sr., 49, of Struthers, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on Thursday September 18, 2025, with his family at his side.
Bill was born in Ever Green Park, Ill. On February 20, 1976, the son of David W. and Mary Ellen Rupp Smith, and moved to this area in 1985.
He was a 1994 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He attended Youngstown State University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Bill worked for DeMatic CO. in Brecksville as a Control Engineer for thirteen years.
He had several interests and hobbies, loved to build Legos and build computers. He enjoyed weekly walks in Mill Creek Park and Cuyahoga Cleveland Park, plus Yellow Creek Park.
Bill loved music, he played in a band when he was younger, and passed his love onto his children, he enjoyed attending Billy’s concerts.
He followed in the culinary skills of the Rupp family; he was especially proud of his chicken Marsala and Italian wedding soup.
When Bill was younger, he loved woodworking; he did framework like his dad and remodeled his home while living there.
Bill was very fond of traveling with his mom to the Caribbean and they had a lot of fun on a trip they took to Germany.
He often took homemade meals to Vivien at her workplace. The most important useful lesson he taught his children was to be a kind person to others.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Mary Ellen Smith, his children, daughter Vivien Chritina Smith and son William “Billy” Smith Jr.
He loved his kittens, Bruno, Fred and Reggie.
Bill was preceded in death by his father David, who died 36 years ago on the same day William died.
Family and friends are invited to join the family for a memorial Mass on Thursday October 23, 2025, at Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church, at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Thomas Kraszewski.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
