Mr. Edward Joseph Albaugh, born on August 21, 1926, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. He was a son of the late Eva Marie Miller Tuttle and John Wendell Albaugh. Ed was a member of a ‘group of guys’ called the Sardonic Club in high school. He played football and was in a winter hockey league on Lake Newport. Upon graduating in January of 1945 from South High, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. After his service he attended and graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. degree in Psychiatric Counseling in the field of Social Work.
The late Nancy Jane Ramm was his beautiful bride on September 15, 1951, at St. Dominic’s Church. They spent their honeymoon in the Pocono Mountains and traveled to Chicago a week later in a ‘41 Pontiac sedan. Ed graduated from Loyola University with a master’s degree in Social Work.
Edward’s brother Jack Wendell Albaugh passed before him. Edward and Nancy leave a legacy of seven children: E. Kurt Albaugh (Celia) from Houston, TX; Karl J. Albaugh (Roseann) from Kane, PA and Debary, FL; Konrad J. Albaugh (Amie) from Sequim, WA; Virginia ‘ginny’ Walters (Mark) from Rocky River, OH; Kenrick ‘Rick’ Albaugh (Annette) from Avon, Hatteras Island, NC; Lori M. Albaugh from San Antonio, TX; and Kristopher W. Albaugh (Jill) from Bolivar, OH. Their legacy will continue with their 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ed was an active athlete until this recent illness. He rode his bike in warm weather around Lake Newport a few times a week. He had his favorite spots to stop for a drink of water and say a prayer. He loved fishing from the family canoe and from the beach in Hatteras, North Carolina. He also enjoyed grilling in his backyard while sharing a beer with his neighbors and family. He was a life-long weightlifter and could do more push-ups in his last months than any of his children.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at the funeral home for a bench on his bike route in Mill Creek Park. www.gofundme.com /ed-nancy-albaugh039s-mull-creek-park-bench
