Prayers will be 9:15 a.m.  Monday April 16, 2018 at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the very Rev. Msgr. Peter M. Polando at 10 am at St. Columba Cathedral, Youngstown, for Adoracion F. Gonzalez, 86 of Youngstown, who passed away peacefully early Monday morning surrounded by her children.

Adoracion was born October 17, 1931 in Manila, Philippines, a daughter of Roman and Celerina Espinosa Frias. She graduated cum laude with a BA from Adamson University in Manila in 1952.  She earned an MA at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI in 1958 and a Doctorate Fellowship at Kent State University.  Adoracion began as an instructor at Youngstown State University in 1963 in the Social and Political Sciences Department.  She retired in 1996 as assistant professor from the department.  Also in 1996, Adoracion was named Professor Emeritus and co-authored the book ‘The Fabric of Society,’ which was then used as a text book in Social Studies courses.

Adoracion was a member of St. Columba Cathedral and St. Dominic Church and enjoyed being a part of the YSU Women’s Club, Gourmet Club, and International Institute.  Her love of learning got her involved in the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), which brought her to study as the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 1972, Cambridge University in Cambridge, England in 1975, Oxford University in Oxford, England in 1979, where she studied politics and economics and education, and the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland 1980, to study English and Shakespeare.

Adoracion leaves to cherish his memory a daughter Adrianne G. Bosela of Canfield and a son Johan G. Pastor of Boardman, two sisters Aidy Frias of Boardman and Betty Garriel of FL, as well as many nieces and nephews all over the country.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Pastor, who died in 1998 and five brothers and one sister.
