Youngstown - Prayers will be offered at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday at The Fox Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Columba Cathedral celebrated by the Very Reverend Monsignor Peter M. Polando for Geraldine “Gerri” A. Zarlengo, 74, who passed away peacefully on Friday, surrounded by her loving family.

Gerri was born on October 19, 1943 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Oriento A. and Anna Marie (Sabelli) Zarlengo. She was a 1961 graduate of East High School in Youngstown. Gerri was very hardworking and had an extensive career. She worked at Strouss’ Grille in downtown Youngstown, Parilla’s in Girard and had a 36 year-long tenure working in the cafeteria at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

Gerri enjoyed being at home with her neighbors on her porch, where everyone was always welcome to bring a lawn chair and enjoy laughs. She was also known for her love of Italian food, especially spaghetti, eggplants and smelts. When festival season came around, she always expected friends and family to bring her Italian goodies. Most of all, Gerri cherished spending time with her family. Whether it was her trip with her sister, brother and brother-in-law to visit family in Washington, talking with and rooting for her nephews at their baseball games, or enjoying Sunday and holiday dinners, Gerri was known keep everyone laughing.

Gerri was preceded in death by her parents, Oriento A. and Anna Marie (Sabelli) Zarlengo.

Gerri will always be remembered by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen A. and Jim Snyder, who were her caregivers. She will also be remembered by her brother, Joseph D. Zarlengo, a step brother and her dear friend and neighbor, Fay, whom she shared many morning cups of coffee with. She will be deeply missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews including Kim (Scott) Ruark, great-nephews Evan and Kolten Ruark and her beloved pet, J.D., who meant the world to her.

Family and friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8p.m. at The Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, 4700 Market Street.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ricciardi and Dr. Minera along with the staff at Mercy Health for the loving care they gave Gerri during her special time.

Remember Me

Don’t remember me with sadness.

Don’t remember me with tears.

Remember all the laughter,

We’ve shared throughout the years.

Now I am contented

That my life it was worthwhile,

Knowing that I passed along the way

I made somebody smile.

When you are walking down the street

And you’ve got me on your mind

I’m walking in your footsteps

Only half a step behind.

So please don’t be unhappy

Just because I’m out of sight,

Remember that I’m with you

Each morning, noon and night.
