James B. "Jimmy" Resch

There will be a mass of Christian Burial, at St. Patrick Church on Friday, May 11 at 10 a.m. for James B. Resch, who passed away Thursday, May 3 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

“Jimmy” was the son of the late Paul G. and Eleanor M. Lavin Resch.  He was born in Youngstown where he continued to be a lifelong area resident.

Jimmy attended St. Patrick School.  He was a Navy Veteran, having served on both the U.S.S. Antietam and the U.S.S. Shangri-La and honorably discharged in 1954 with a rank of E3.  After returning home, he worked for the A & P Tea Co. and the Ross Radio Co. from where he later retired.

For those who knew him, Jimmy was an avid sports fan.  He enjoyed spending his time rooting for his favorite teams: Norte Dame, Cleveland Browns, YSU and most importantly, the Cleveland Indians.  He spent many mornings walking at the Southern Park Mall and having coffee with his fellow walkers.  He also enjoyed his many trips to Ireland and was greatly fond of the Irish heritage.

Jimmy was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Parish in Youngstown.  He enjoyed volunteering his time working the bereavement dinners and the monthly spaghetti dinners with the many friends he made there.    

He leaves to cherish his memory, his brother Paul A. (Patricia) Resch of Boardman, his niece and caregiver Michelle C. Lightner (Bill Rankin) of Girard, as well as several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia A. Kester and his nephew, David C. Kester.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman and at St. Patrick Church on Friday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the mass.

The family has requested that contributions in his memory be made to St. Patrick Church 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, OH. 44507.
