Rudolph Parella Obituary

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Gerald DeLucia at Saint Charles Borromeo Church on Tuesday, September 4 at 11AM for Rudolph S. Parella, 91, a wonderful, loving husband, proud father and grandfather passed away peacefully on August 30 at Hospice of the Valley surrounded by his loving family.

Rudy was born December 26, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of James and Grace Tetaro Parella. After graduating from East High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Armty to serve his country, having been honoroably discharged from his duties in 1943. After his discharge, he went on to attend Youngstown State University.

In 1949 Rudy co-founded Parella Construction Company which did numerous construction projects across northeast Ohio. Then, in 1960, he co-founded The Oven Restaurant with his brother, Bob, sister, Rose, and nephew, James. The Oven quickly became a legendary place to eat and socialize with lines wrapping around the building after high school sporting events. Finally, in 1974, Parella Construction merged with Pannunzio Construction, which continues today in the construction industry. Rudy finally retired in 2014 after a long, distinguished career in business.

Rudy was a lifelong member of Tippecanoe Country Club who greatly enjoyed golfing with his close friends, known as the Brady Bunch and would have to sometimes play an emergency 9. Rudy was also a lifelong member of St. Charles Church. Most of all, Rudy enjoyed spending time with his family. He was the number one fan at all his grandchildren’s sporting events, never missing a game. Rudy brought a smile to those who knew him and loved him and always had a kind word to say. Rudy treated everyone he met with compassion and respect and maintained friendships from all season of his life.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers William, Robert and John, sisters Rose, Mary and infant daughter, Susan Lynn.

Rudy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 61 years, the former  Martha Loychik his son, Greg (Michelle), his daughter, Lisa, grandchildren, Gianna, Gregory, Alex, Adriana, D.J> (Josi), Lexi (Jimmy), and Matthew, three great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:45 AM at Saint Charles Borromeo Church.

In lieu of flowers, Rudy’s family requests any donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, whose compassion and care was greatly appreciated.
